GTA 6 is a fictional crime story, not a true one, but Rockstar built it from Florida: its narrative chief told Dazed the game is “a Bonnie and Clyde-type narrative”, and its developers describe years of research from Miami, the Keys and the Everglades to North Florida cities such as Jacksonville and Ocala, for a state Aaron Garbut calls “America dialed up to 11”. Rockstar’s GTA VI pages we checked never name Florida or Miami, but Game Informer’s cover story names Florida as Leonida’s real-world inspiration and, as VGC reports, ties each of its six regions to a part of the state, from Miami-inspired Vice City to Everglades-inspired Grassrivers. Outlets have matched Trailer 1’s landmarks and viral-style clips to real Miami places and online videos, from E11EVEN’s banner planes to a woman dancing on a car on the MacArthur Causeway, though some matched videos may come from outside Florida and Rockstar has not confirmed any specific clip or person as a source. Before launch the link now runs both ways, with real Wynwood Walls murals made for the game and Vice City branding across Miami.

Jason and Lucia: a “Bonnie and Clyde-type” story
От Rockstar· Rockstar interview with Dazed (autumn 2026 issue); Rockstar’s game description
- Real world:
- Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, the outlaw couple who robbed banks across America during the Great Depression
- In game:
- Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a couple pulled into a statewide conspiracy after “an easy score goes wrong”
Rupert Humphries, Rockstar’s senior vice president of narrative, told Dazed for its autumn 2026 issue that GTA VI is “a Bonnie and Clyde-type narrative”, a line TechRadar and VGC also picked up. The comparison is older than any trailer: in July 2022 a Bloomberg report, covered by TechRadar and Push Square, said the story would draw on the Depression-era bank-robbing couple. Rockstar’s own synopsis only says the pair must rely on each other once an easy score goes wrong. Nothing Rockstar has said suggests Jason and Lucia are versions of the real Bonnie and Clyde; the comparison is about the shape of the story.

Years of research on the ground in Florida
Сообщается· Rockstar interviews with Dazed (autumn 2026 issue), TroisCouleurs (September 2026), Game Informer (September 2026) and LOVE (October 2026)
- Real world:
- Miami, the towns around it, the Florida Keys down to Key West and the Everglades, plus the people who live there
- In game:
- Leonida’s places, characters and street life
Rob Nelson told TroisCouleurs that once the team picks a setting, it goes there, drives around and photographs as much as it can (GamesRadar+). Aaron Garbut told LOVE that a small group first travelled from Miami through nearby towns and the Keys to Key West, and that later trips went deeper: “We travel around with cops and with gang members” (Dexerto). Rupert Humphries told Game Informer the team tries to experience everything, from night-time rides with ex-cops to strip clubs, nightclubs, beaches, the Everglades and the Keys (GamesRadar+). Dazed reports that Rockstar keeps a research team embedded in Miami, and Humphries told it the team meets “ex-criminals, law enforcement, club promoters, gun dealers” and others, then checks their stories against books and journalism; Dazed says he credits most of the game’s characters to this research. Rockstar has not said that any character is a portrait of one real person.

A smaller American dream, set in South Florida
Сообщается· Rockstar interview with LOVE magazine (October 2026); Lucia’s official profile
- Real world:
- South Florida’s mix of great wealth, ambition and money worries
- In game:
- Jason and Lucia chasing a modest version of the good life
In LOVE magazine’s October 2026 issue, Rupert Humphries described a scaled-down American dream: a house, a family looked after and debts cleared rather than spectacular success, which he said may still be beyond many people (GamesRadar+, Beebom). He called Miami and South Florida a front line between enormous wealth and boundless ambition, “a pressure cooker for all kinds of insanity” (GamesRadar+), and Vandal reports he wants Rockstar’s version of today to be crazier than reality. Asked whether Jason’s army past was a statement about class, he said Rockstar did not want to make one, though Jason’s crimes grow out of his material circumstances (GamesRadar+). Lucia’s official profile fits the theme: she is chasing the better life her mother has wanted since their Liberty City years.

Miami hip-hop and club life behind the cast
От Rockstar· Rockstar interview with Dazed (autumn 2026 issue); Rockstar character profiles
- Real world:
- Miami’s hip-hop scene, from Miami bass to Kodak Black and Sexyy Red, Overtown house parties, Booby Trap on the River and South Beach clubs
- In game:
- Boobie Ike, Dre’Quan Priest, Real Dimez and Only Raw Records
Rupert Humphries told Dazed that the team loves Miami music, from Miami bass to more recent artists such as Kodak Black and Sexyy Red, and was drawn to how the city’s hip-hop scene runs from house parties in Overtown to clubs like Booby Trap on the River and South Beach venues where bottles cost thousands. He said Rockstar “needed characters who could take us through those worlds”. Dazed places that remark beside Boobie Ike, whose empire includes a strip club and a recording studio, and his young partner Dre’Quan Priest, and Rockstar’s own profiles say Dre’Quan has signed the rap duo Real Dimez to Only Raw Records. Rockstar has not said that any of these characters is based on a real person.

Real Dimez and the City Girls
Не подтверждено· Rockstar character profiles; fan comparisons after Trailer 2 (May 2025)
- Real world:
- The City Girls, the rap duo of JT and Yung Miami
- In game:
- Real Dimez, the Only Raw Records duo of Bae-Luxe and Roxy
Rockstar’s profiles present Real Dimez, Bae-Luxe and Roxy, as a rap duo signed by Dre’Quan Priest to Only Raw Records, and Dazed ties them to the music industry’s recent turn towards female artists. After Trailer 2 in May 2025, fans online compared the pair to the City Girls, the rap duo of JT and Yung Miami; HotNewHipHop reported that fan comparison, and it is the only outlet we found doing so. Rockstar has not named any real artists behind Real Dimez, so the link is not confirmed.

Satire picked so it won’t date
Сообщается· Rockstar interviews with TroisCouleurs (September 2026) and IGN (August 2026)
- Real world:
- News stories, memes and online trends
- In game:
- Jokes aimed at social media, streamers and TV adverts
Rob Nelson told TroisCouleurs that “there will always be things to satirize”, but that Rockstar must pick its targets carefully because the game has been in development since 2015 and a topic can fade or change before it ships (GamesRadar+). He made the same point to IGN: broad subjects are fair game, but “very specific political issues or memes will date fast”, and even the characters’ slang is kept from sounding too current (GamesRadar+). Notebookcheck reports that streamers are one target, and GamesRadar+ points to a streamer in An Extended Look chasing his next viral moment.

No confirmed real couple behind Jason and Lucia
Не подтверждено· Not shown or stated anywhere official
- Real world:
- Any specific real-life criminal couple
- In game:
- Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos
Rockstar calls the story “Bonnie and Clyde-type” and says its research team met many real people in and around Miami to shape its cast, but no official statement or credible outlet we checked says Jason or Lucia is modelled on a particular real person. Treat any claim that names a real couple or individual as their inspiration as unconfirmed.

Leonida: Rockstar’s fictional Florida
Сообщается· Rockstar game description and Only in Leonida guide; Game Informer cover story (September 2026); Dazed feature (autumn 2026 issue)
- Real world:
- The state of Florida, nicknamed the Sunshine State
- In game:
- The state of Leonida, which Rockstar calls the Goodtime State, split into six regions
Rockstar’s GTA VI pages we checked never name Florida, but its synopsis sets the story in “the sunniest place in America”, its Only in Leonida guide invites you to tour “the sunshine state”, and its Newswire calls Leonida the Goodtime State. Game Informer, whose September 2026 cover story rests on interviews with Rockstar, names Florida as Leonida’s real-world inspiration and says the studio set out to make the state as true to it as it could. Paul MacPherson, Rockstar’s senior vice president of environment art, told the magazine the map is geared to “that full Florida experience”, even if some real locations are left out (Kotaku, Dexerto), and Aaron Garbut summed up Florida’s appeal as “America dialed up to 11” (Mashable). Rob Nelson told Dazed that “Florida and Miami have perhaps one of the most diverse and interesting populations in the world”, and VGC’s report on the Game Informer story says each of Leonida’s six regions draws on a different part of the state.

Vice City is modern Miami
Сообщается· Rockstar’s Vice City profile; Game Informer cover story; Dazed feature; Trailer 1
- Real world:
- Miami and Miami Beach, including the Art Deco district and PortMiami, which markets itself as the Cruise Capital of the World
- In game:
- Vice City, with Ocean Beach, Little Cuba, the Tisha-Wocka flea market and the VC Port
Rockstar calls Vice City “the sun and fun capital of America” and lists Ocean Beach’s pastel art deco hotels, the panaderías of Little Cuba, the Tisha-Wocka flea market and the VC Port, “the cruise ship capital of the world”. Game Informer’s preview, as reported by VGC, says Vice City leans heavily on Miami, from its Art Deco buildings and beaches to its big cruise port, and Miami’s real port calls itself the Cruise Capital of the World. Dazed, which interviewed Rockstar’s team, states plainly that Vice City is based on Miami. Kotaku, covering a YouTuber who recreated Trailer 1 shots on Miami’s streets, said the game matches the real city remarkably closely.

Ocean Drive’s hotels and South Beach landmarks

- Real world:
- Miami Beach’s Ocean Drive, including the Breakwater, Beacon, Avalon and Clevelander hotels, the Royal Palm and the beach’s colourful lifeguard stands
- In game:
- Vice City’s beachfront skyline and neon hotel strip, including the Boardwalk and Ocean View hotels
NBC 6 South Florida picked out the Royal Palm hotel and the colourful lifeguard stands in Trailer 1’s beach skyline, then Ocean Drive’s neon row of hotels: the Breakwater, the Beacon and the Avalon, with its yellow-and-white classic car parked outside. Den of Geek also spotted that vintage car and says the fictional Boardwalk hotel stands in for the Avalon, while Miami New Times says the Boardwalk is the Breakwater renamed, so outlets disagree on that one. Dexerto says the Ocean View Hotel’s sign is styled like the real Clevelander’s, and Miami New Times places a Trailer 2 night-time pool scene at the Clevelander. Rockstar’s own screenshots include a Vice City lifeguard stand.

- Miami’s Venetian, MacArthur and Rickenbacker causeways, 500 Brickell, the Fontainebleau’s Trésor Tower and the Kaseya Center
- In game:
- Vice City’s causeways, towers and road signs for Kelly County and Catalan Blvd
Miami New Times and Gamepressure, which relays YouTuber Joel Franco’s side-by-side video, both say Trailer 1 closely recreates the Venetian Causeway, and Miami New Times also spotted the MacArthur and Rickenbacker causeways and towers such as 500 Brickell, with its round hole between twin towers. Miami New Times and Dexerto both say a penthouse pool in the trailer matches the one atop Trésor Tower at the Fontainebleau. Gamepressure notes Rockstar does not copy everything: the trailer shows the Kaseya Center beside the MacArthur Causeway, though in reality the arena sits a few streets away, out of view. Road signs for Kelly County and Catalan Blvd are readable in the trailer (GamesRadar+); only Miami New Times reads them as Miami-Dade County and Biscayne Boulevard.

Nine 1 Nine, a nod to Miami’s E11EVEN
Замечено в кадрах· Trailer 1; real banner planes over South Beach (October 2026)
- Real world:
- E11EVEN, a nightclub in downtown Miami, and its banner planes
- In game:
- A plane banner for “Nine 1 Nine Vice City”
Trailer 1 shows a plane towing a banner for Nine 1 Nine with the line “why sixty-nine when you can Nine 1 Nine” (VGC, Push Square). Den of Geek, NBC 6 South Florida and Miami New Times all read it as a riff on E11EVEN, the downtown Miami club known for flying banner ads along South Beach. E11EVEN played along: the day after the trailer it flew its own banner reading “When Nine 1 Nine = E11even”, though its marketing director told Miami New Times he did not know for sure that the game meant his club. In October 2026 the joke went the other way, with Vice reporting planes towing NINE1NINE banners over South Beach as part of the launch campaign; only Vice reports this among the outlets we checked, and Rockstar has not explained the name.

Miami New Times says one Trailer 1 club has a DJ booth and hanging planters like those at Club Space, the downtown Miami nightclub on NE 11th Street, while noting it is not a one-to-one copy. Its later piece on E11EVEN repeats that versions of Club Space and E11EVEN flash by in the trailer. Only Miami New Times reports this, and Rockstar has not named the club.

Trailer 2 briefly shows an elevated passenger train. Kotaku calls it Rockstar’s version of Miami’s Metromover, as Miami New Times does, while PC Gamer compares it to Metrorail, so outlets agree it is Miami’s elevated rail but not on which system. Rockstar has not said whether players can ride it.

The Leonida Keys and the Florida Keys
Сообщается· Rockstar’s Leonida Keys profile; Trailer 1; Game Informer cover story
- Real world:
- The Florida Keys island chain, down to Key West, including the Seven Mile Bridge
- In game:
- The Leonida Keys, a laid-back archipelago where Jason lives
Rockstar describes the Keys as an easy-going “tropical archipelago” beside beautiful but dangerous waters, and one of its screenshots shows a seaplane over a bridge linking two islands. Game Informer’s preview, as reported by VGC, calls the region the game’s take on the Florida Keys, and Aaron Garbut says Rockstar’s first research trip ran through the Keys to Key West (Dexerto). Miami New Times and Kotaku both identify the Seven Mile Bridge in an aerial shot from Trailer 1. Only Dexerto reports a tourist stop that mirrors the real Rain Barrel Village, with a whale where the real one has a giant lobster.

Grassrivers and the Everglades
Сообщается· Rockstar’s Grassrivers profile; Game Informer cover story; Rockstar interview with LOVE
- Real world:
- Florida’s Everglades wetlands
- In game:
- Grassrivers, Leonida’s wetlands of airboats, alligators and mangroves
Rockstar sells Grassrivers as “the untamable jewel of Leonida’s crown”, a primordial expanse where the gators are the famous attraction but far from the deadliest thing in the mangroves. Game Informer’s preview, as reported by VGC, says the region draws on the Florida Everglades. Aaron Garbut told LOVE that one research flight went low over Everglades mangrove inlets before ending up above a stadium during a Beyoncé concert: “I think we made the local news the next day” (Dexerto).

Port Gellhorn and Florida’s faded resort towns
Сообщается· Rockstar’s Port Gellhorn profile; Game Informer cover story
- Real world:
- Florida’s run-down seaside tourist towns; Dexerto suggests Panama City
- In game:
- Port Gellhorn, “Leonida’s forgotten coast”
Rockstar calls Port Gellhorn “Leonida’s forgotten coast”: a former holiday spot of cheap motels, closed attractions and empty strip malls, now running on malt liquor, painkillers and energy drinks. Game Informer’s preview, as reported by VGC, says it reflects Florida’s smaller tourist destinations that have gone into decline. Dexerto thinks it points to Panama City because of the architecture and its seaside setting far from Miami, and Paul MacPherson told Game Informer that Panama City was among the North Florida cities Rockstar studied (Mashable). Still, only Dexerto ties Port Gellhorn to a named town, and Rockstar has not.

Ambrosia and Florida’s sugar country
Сообщается· Rockstar’s Ambrosia profile; Game Informer cover story
- Real world:
- The sugar-growing towns around Lake Okeechobee; Dexerto compares the refinery to U.S. Sugar’s in Clewiston
- In game:
- Ambrosia, an industrial town run by the Allied Crystal sugar refinery and a biker gang
Rockstar places Ambrosia in the heart of Leonida, a town where the Allied Crystal sugar refinery is the main employer and, in Rockstar’s words, the local biker gang supplies “almost everything else”; one official image shows crop fields burning at sunset. Game Informer’s preview, as reported by VGC, presents it as the state’s industrial side. Dexerto compares the refinery to U.S. Sugar’s plant in Clewiston, saying the two look very alike, and suggests a blend of towns around Lake Okeechobee, while noting that Rockstar has not named its inspirations. Only Dexerto makes the Clewiston comparison.

- Real world:
- The backwoods culture of Florida’s northern border with Georgia
- In game:
- Mount Kalaga National Park, a hunting, fishing and off-road area on Leonida’s northern edge
Rockstar describes Mount Kalaga as a national landmark on the state’s northern border, with prime hunting, fishing and off-road trails, and backwoods home to “hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals”. Game Informer’s preview, as reported by VGC, says the region borrows from the culture along Florida’s border with Georgia. No outlet we checked names a single real park or mountain behind it.

- Real world:
- Jacksonville, Panama City, Ocala and other North Florida cities
- In game:
- The part of Leonida that Mashable links to this research, with ATV trails, mud parties, demolition derbies, farms and bass fishing
Paul MacPherson told Game Informer that Rockstar’s research reached beyond Miami to cities in the north of the state, including Jacksonville, Ocala and Panama City, according to Mashable’s summary of the cover story. Mashable says that region of the game offers ATV trails, a mud park party, night-time demolition derbies, farms and bass fishing. Only Mashable reports this list among the outlets we checked, and Rockstar has not tied any of these cities to a specific in-game town.

No Disney World, but the “full Florida experience”
Сообщается· Game Informer cover story (September 2026)
- Real world:
- Orlando’s theme parks, such as Walt Disney World and Universal Studios, and the Space Coast around Cape Canaveral
- In game:
- Not confirmed in Leonida in any form
Asked by Game Informer about Orlando, Disney World and the Space Coast, Paul MacPherson said Rockstar weighs landscapes, towns and landmarks against what the game needs, adding that “we may not have those exact locations” (Kotaku, Dexerto). Kotaku reads that as ruling out a Disney World parody while leaving room for pieces of central Florida, and says official marketing hints at a large alligator-themed park that looks inspired by Gatorland, south of Orlando. Kotaku also thinks a Minnie Mouse-style character it spotted in the gameplay reveal points to some kind of Disney parody. The Gatorland and Minnie Mouse links come only from Kotaku.

Stockyard, Wynwood and real street artists
Сообщается· Trailer 1; Trailer 2; Dazed feature (autumn 2026 issue)
- Real world:
- Miami’s Wynwood neighbourhood and its mural-covered walls
- In game:
- Murals and graffiti in Vice City’s Stockyard district
NBC 6 South Florida counted the graffiti-lined walls of Wynwood among the most Miami sights in Trailer 1, and Miami New Times says the trailer’s arts district clearly references Wynwood, down to murals that resemble work by local artists; it later wrote that a mural-covered wall in Trailer 2 calls Little Haiti to mind. Dazed, which interviewed Rockstar, reports that more than 50 real street artists designed murals for places like Vice City’s Stockyard, which it says is based on Wynwood, and VGC repeats the street-artist figure. Miami New Times and ARTnews have since described Stockyard the same way. Dazed does not name the artists, but in October 2026 Wynwood Walls named ten whose murals appear in the game.

- Wynwood Walls, the open-air mural museum in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District, and the artists who painted its new murals
- In game:
- Murals in Vice City’s Stockyard district and FAILE’s tattoos at the Electric Fang Tattoo Parlor
On October 13, 2026, Miami’s Wynwood Walls museum announced Rockstar-funded free entry for Miami-Dade residents through 2028 and unveiled ten murals created for Stockyard, Vice City’s Wynwood-style district, which stay up until January 1, 2027 (ARTnews, Miami New Times, Complex). Two of the artists, Atomik and Tatiana Suarez, are Miami-based, and the others are Tristan Eaton, Ron English, Queen Andrea, Lady Aiko, Gons and Audet, Faile, Denial and Askew One; Miami New Times says the museum’s announcement states their work also appears in the game. ARTnews and Miami New Times add that other street and tattoo artists in the game were curated by the Detroit agency 1XRUN. Rockstar’s own Ultimate Edition page already credits FAILE with more than 50 tattoos for Stockyard’s Electric Fang Tattoo Parlor.

In An Extended Look, Lucia opens the trunk of a stolen car to find a young streamer doing a “Trunk challenge”; his chat names him Camilo, and he keeps talking to it as police give chase (SVG, Notebookcheck). Notebookcheck reads the scene as Rockstar poking fun at IRL streaming and attention-seeking challenge culture, and GamesRadar+, writing about the satire Rob Nelson described, points to a streamer in An Extended Look chasing the next viral moment. SVG adds that on-screen prompts let players open the chat and view the livestream.

“Leonida Man”, the game’s Florida Man
Замечено в кадрах· Trailer 1; Dazed feature (autumn 2026 issue)
- Real world:
- The “Florida Man” meme, built on strange Florida crime headlines
- In game:
- News tickers and social accounts about a “Leonida man”, such as PlanetLeonidaMan
Trailer 1’s Weazel News ticker carries a headline about a Leonida man sucked up in a waterspout who wants the city to buy him a new suit (Push Square), and VGC and PC Gamer spotted clips from an account called PlanetLeonidaMan. GamesRadar+ and SVG describe “Leonida Man” as Rockstar’s take on the Florida Man meme, the long-running joke about bizarre Florida news stories. Dazed, after interviewing Rockstar, says players can expect versions of Florida Man, and game writer Michael Wiafe told it the team approached the culture with “an open mind, a genuine appreciation and a deep curiosity” rather than just repeating clichés.

Сообщается· Trailer 1 (first use of the name)
- Real world:

- In game:
- The state name “Leonida”
VGC and the German site GIGA both read the name Leonida as a reference to Juan Ponce de León, whose 1513 expedition VGC describes as the first European expedition to Florida. Rockstar has not explained the name in anything we found, so this is the outlets’ reading rather than fact.

Kotaku, which calls the team the Leonida Manatees, thinks its colour and design make it Rockstar’s spin on the Miami Dolphins, and PC Gamer reaches the same conclusion, noting that manatees are also called sea cows. Miami New Times also reads the jersey as Miami’s pro football team under a new name. Rockstar has not described the team.

Parody brands with real-world twins
Сообщается· Trailer 1; Dazed feature (autumn 2026 issue)
- Real world:
- Fox News, Louis Vuitton, Samuel Adams and Apple Pay
- In game:
- Weazel News, Sessanta Nove, Patriot Beer and iFruit Pay
Outlets have matched several of the trailers’ spoof brands to real ones. VGC and Push Square both read Weazel News, the series’ news channel, as a Fox News parody. VGC also calls Sessanta Nove’s SN logo a rip-off of Louis Vuitton’s and says Patriot Beer’s new logo echoes Samuel Adams, while Push Square spotted iFruit Pay standing in for Apple Pay on a shop door; those three are single-outlet readings. Dazed notes that many of the game’s brands closely resemble real ones, and Rockstar’s Stu Petri told it the aim is “a vibrant, believable culture” in which each brand feels as if it really exists.

- Uncle Jack’s Liquors, the store the pair raid at the end of Trailer 1
Near the end of Trailer 1, Jason and Lucia enter a liquor store called Uncle Jacks (VGC), whose door sign refuses cash kept in underwear. Miami New Times reads the store, with its moustached silhouette logo, as a nod to Big Daddy’s Liquors, the liquor-store side of the South Florida chain Flanigan’s, and Dexerto says a Flanigan’s logo can be seen on the door at about the 1:18 mark. Rockstar has not commented.

Den of Geek points out that Petty was a Florida native and that a “Petty Forever” sticker appears on a shop door, which Push Square also spotted. IGN reported that Spotify streams of the song rose 36,979% week on week after the trailer.

An Extended Look uses Phil Collins’ “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)”, and Kotaku links Collins to Vice City Stories, where a digital Collins performed “In the Air Tonight”, a song Kotaku also ties to Miami Vice. The Launch Trailer breaks the pattern with a new single from the game’s score composers, Justice.

Scarface and Miami Vice nods
Сообщается· Trailer 1 and its key art
- Real world:
- Scarface and Miami Vice, the 1980s Miami crime stories behind the original GTA: Vice City
- In game:
- A Scarface building in Trailer 1’s artwork and a Miami Vice-style speedboat opening
Den of Geek spotted a small building with three round windows in Trailer 1’s key art and says it is the building from Scarface’s chainsaw scene; only Den of Geek reports this. Dexerto says the trailer’s opening speedboat shot resembles the opening credits of Miami Vice, and it is the only outlet we found saying so. NBC 6 South Florida and Miami New Times both note that the 2002 Vice City drew on Miami Vice and Scarface.

Rockstar also introduces Mud Dog Mike, a swamp weatherman who calls in from his Grassrivers airboat. Rolling Stone and Kotaku say he is voiced by Jeremy Dufrene, Lana Del Rey’s husband, and Rolling Stone adds that Dufrene is an airboat captain in real life. Rockstar’s own post does not name the people behind the hosts.

Vice City fashion, shaped by a Miami stylist
Сообщается· Dazed feature (autumn 2026 issue)
- Real world:
- Miami’s image-conscious fashion scene, driven by social media, celebrity culture and tourists
- In game:
- Jason and Lucia’s clothes and the wider Vice City look
Dazed reports that Miami-based stylist Jillian Carr has worked with Rockstar since 2023 on an in-game “fashion ecosystem” meant to reflect the taste, wealth and individuality on show in the city, and VGC repeats the detail. Carr told Dazed that “Vice City is built around vanity”, with social media, celebrity culture and tourists making trends turn over fast. Rockstar-supplied images in the same feature credit outfits to in-game labels such as Stock 305 and Nola.
Florida weather, hurricanes included
Сообщается· Game Informer cover story (September 2026); Trailer 2
- Real world:
- Florida’s clear winters, stormy summer and autumn afternoons, tropical storms and hurricanes
- In game:
- A localized weather system with severe storms, and a “Hurricane Roxy” sign in Trailer 2
Rockstar’s Owen Shepherd told Game Informer that the new cloud system runs from “the clear blue skies of a Miami winter” up to the towering, lightning-lit clouds of Florida’s summer and autumn afternoons, and VGC reports that tropical storms and hurricanes are part of it. Game Informer’s own cover page says the weather simulates Florida’s less sunny side. Kotaku spotted a bar sign mentioning “Hurricane Roxy” in Trailer 2 and guesses it was a past storm in Leonida.

Florida’s real invasive animals, monkeys included
Сообщается· Game Informer cover story (September 2026)
- Real world:
- Florida’s native and invasive wildlife, including the wild rhesus macaques around Silver Springs State Park
- In game:
- More than 170 species in Leonida, from alligators and manatees to green iguanas, cane toads and rhesus macaques
Game Informer’s cover story says Leonida has more than 170 animal species, mixing native Florida wildlife such as flamingos, manatees, pelicans and alligators with invasive arrivals, among them green iguanas, cane toads, feral cats and rhesus macaques, and adds “Yes, Florida has monkeys”. IGN’s list of confirmed animals also includes rhesus macaques and nine-banded armadillos. The monkeys echo a real Florida story: Notebookcheck, citing a University of Florida fact sheet, says the state’s wild macaques descend from about six animals that a glass-bottom boat tour operator released in the 1930s at what is now Silver Springs State Park. Rockstar has not said where its macaques live in Leonida.

Miami turns into Vice City for launch
Сообщается· Real-world launch marketing (September to November 2026)
- Real world:
- The real Miami Heat, Kaseya Center, Miami Beach and Miami-Dade County
- In game:
- Vice City branding, a “Welcome to Vice City” rooftop sign, the “Vice City Heat”, a Vice City blimp and GTA 6-style cars on Miami streets
Rockstar’s marketing is now laying Vice City over the real city. On September 22 a giant “Welcome to Vice City” sign went up on the Kaseya Center, the Miami Heat’s arena, under a $975,000 deal with Miami-Dade County that was approved without a county commission vote (Notebookcheck, citing the Miami Herald, and Beebom). The Heat will play as Vice City against the Milwaukee Bucks at the arena on November 18, the eve of launch (GamesRadar+, VGC), and Miami Beach commissioners voted 4–3 on September 10 to allow a campaign running from October 15 to the end of 2026, on which Rockstar is expected to spend about $3 million (GamesRadar+). In October, Push Square reported Vice City-styled cars, including Vice Beach police cars, on Miami’s roads, and both Push Square and Vice reported a blimp with Vice City branding over South Florida, which Vice says is a Goodyear blimp. Miami-Dade’s sheriff and a county commissioner have objected to the county promoting Vice City (GamesRadar+, Notebookcheck).

Пока неизвестно
Что Rockstar не сообщила по состоянию на 20 октября 2026 г.. Дополним, когда она сообщит.
- Whether Rockstar deliberately recreated any specific viral video in Trailer 1. Every match comes from outlets; Rockstar has not confirmed or denied a single one.
- Where the naked police chase and the two-hammers clips were originally filmed. Know Your Meme points to an August 2022 FOX 35 Orlando report and NBC 6 South Florida to another 2022 video, while ActuGaming (Oakville) and Kotaku (Halton) point to Ontario; Den of Geek and ActuGaming say Chatsworth in Los Angeles for the hammers, while Know Your Meme says Miami.
- Which real event, if any, lies behind Trailer 1’s street takeover; only Kotaku proposes the December 2020 Miami Beach donuts video.
- Which real hotel the fictional Boardwalk hotel stands for: Den of Geek says the Avalon, Miami New Times the Breakwater.
- Whether the “Florida Joker” lookalike appears in the finished game, and whether Lawrence Sullivan’s claims ever went further than TikTok videos. No source we checked reports a lawsuit or a Rockstar response.
- Exact real-world counterparts for each region. Rockstar’s Paul MacPherson told Game Informer (as Mashable reports) that Panama City was among the cities the team studied, but only Dexerto ties Port Gellhorn to it, only Dexerto names Clewiston for Ambrosia, and no outlet we checked names one real place behind Mount Kalaga.
- Whether Little Cuba stands in for Miami’s Little Havana. Rockstar names Little Cuba, but only fan wikis make the comparison.
- Whether Leonida’s name refers to Juan Ponce de León (VGC and GIGA think so; Rockstar has not said).
- Whether there is a Gatorland-style alligator park or a Disney-style parody in the game (only Kotaku suggests either).
- Who the rest of the game’s mural artists are. Dazed counts more than 50 street artists, Wynwood Walls names ten, and ARTnews and Miami New Times say others were curated by 1XRUN without listing them.
- Whether any named character, such as Boobie Ike, Dre’Quan Priest or the Real Dimez, was inspired by specific real people. Rupert Humphries says Miami’s hip-hop scene shaped the cast, but no official or credible source we checked ties a character to one person; fans compare Real Dimez to the City Girls, a comparison HotNewHipHop reported, but Rockstar has not confirmed it.
- Whether any real person’s likeness was used for a character. Several people have claimed online that a GTA 6 character was based on them, but Rockstar has not confirmed any.
- Whether a club called Nine 1 Nine appears in Trailer 2. Dexerto says Jason and Lucia are seen dancing at a club by that name, but we could not confirm a club by that name in official footage or images.
- Who is paying for the NINE1NINE banner planes over South Beach. Vice lists them among Rockstar’s launch promotions, but Rockstar has not commented.
- Rockstar’s GTA VI pages we checked (the main page and Only in Leonida) never name Florida or Miami; the Florida links come from interviews. We read the Dazed feature and Game Informer’s online pages directly, but the LOVE and TroisCouleurs interviews and the full Game Informer story only through the outlets that quote them.
FAQ
Is GTA 6 based on a true story?
No. GTA 6 tells a fictional story about Jason and Lucia, though Rockstar’s narrative chief calls it “a Bonnie and Clyde-type narrative” and the team spent years researching real people and places in Florida. Outlets have matched several Trailer 1 clips to real viral videos, but Rockstar has not said the plot retells any real case.
Are Jason and Lucia based on Bonnie and Clyde?
In spirit, yes: Rockstar’s Rupert Humphries told Dazed that GTA VI is “a Bonnie and Clyde-type narrative”, and a 2022 Bloomberg report already said the story drew on the outlaw couple. Rockstar has not said Jason and Lucia are versions of the real Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow.
What real viral videos are in the GTA 6 trailer?
Outlets have matched Trailer 1 clips to a woman twerking on a car on Miami’s MacArthur Causeway in 2017, alligators pulled from a pool and wandering into a shop, a man doing yard work nearly naked, a woman with two hammers, a naked man fleeing police, dirt-bike ride-outs and the “Florida Joker”. These are the outlets’ matches, not Rockstar’s, and two may not be from Florida: Den of Geek and ActuGaming place the hammer video in Los Angeles, while ActuGaming and Kotaku tie the police chase to Ontario, Canada.
Is Vice City based on Miami?
Yes. Game Informer’s preview, as reported by VGC, says Vice City draws heavily on Miami’s Art Deco architecture, beaches and cruise port, and Dazed, which interviewed Rockstar, says it is based on Miami. The game still uses fictional names throughout.
Is Leonida Florida?
Leonida is Rockstar’s fictional version of Florida: Game Informer, which interviewed Rockstar for its cover story, names Florida as the state’s real-world inspiration, and Rockstar’s Paul MacPherson says the map is built for “that full Florida experience”. Some real places, such as Disney World and the Space Coast, may not appear as exact recreations.
Why did Rockstar set GTA 6 in Florida?
Rob Nelson told Dazed that “Florida and Miami have perhaps one of the most diverse and interesting populations in the world”, and Aaron Garbut summed up the state’s appeal to Game Informer as “America dialed up to 11” (Mashable). Rupert Humphries told LOVE that Miami and South Florida sit on the front line between huge wealth and ambition, calling the region “a pressure cooker for all kinds of insanity”. He also told Game Informer that the game’s stories thrive where rich and poor people live right next door to each other (GamesRadar+).
Which real places did Rockstar research for GTA 6?
Aaron Garbut told LOVE that the first research trip ran from Miami through nearby towns and the Keys to Key West (Dexerto), and Rupert Humphries told Game Informer the team also rode at night with ex-cops and spent time in strip clubs, nightclubs, beaches and the Everglades (GamesRadar+). Paul MacPherson told Game Informer the team also looked at northern cities including Jacksonville, Ocala and Panama City (Mashable), but Rockstar has not said which real town stands behind each in-game place.
Is Grassrivers based on the Everglades?
Yes, according to Game Informer’s preview as reported by VGC, which says Grassrivers draws on the Florida Everglades. Rockstar’s Aaron Garbut has also described research flights low over the Everglades’ mangroves.
Which part of Vice City is based on Wynwood?
Stockyard. Dazed, which interviewed Rockstar for its feature, says the district is based on Miami’s Wynwood and that more than 50 real street artists designed murals for the game, and Miami New Times and ARTnews describe Stockyard the same way.
Is the Florida Joker in GTA 6?
A purple-haired, face-tattooed man who resembles Lawrence Sullivan, known online as the “Florida Joker”, appears briefly in a Trailer 1 news report, and Sullivan has said the character was inspired by him. Rockstar has not commented, and it is not known whether the character appears in the game.
What is “Leonida Man” in GTA 6?
It is the game’s spin on the “Florida Man” meme: Trailer 1’s news ticker and social clips joke about the strange exploits of a “Leonida man”. GamesRadar+, SVG and Push Square all read it as a Florida Man parody, and Dazed says players can expect versions of Florida Man in the game.
Will GTA 6 have Disney World?
Probably not as such. Asked about Orlando’s theme parks and the Space Coast, Rockstar’s Paul MacPherson told Game Informer “we may not have those exact locations”, which Kotaku reads as ruling out a Disney World parody but not every part of central Florida.
What song is in the first GTA 6 trailer?
Tom Petty’s “Love Is a Long Road”, from his 1989 album Full Moon Fever. Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson has called the song “a real sort of mission statement” for the game.
Is Leonida named after Ponce de León?
Possibly, but it is not confirmed. VGC and GIGA read the name as a nod to Juan Ponce de León, the Spanish explorer who reached Florida in 1513, but Rockstar has not explained it.
Are Jason and Lucia based on real people?
Not as far as anyone has confirmed. Rockstar says its researchers met ex-criminals, police and others to shape its characters, but no official or credible source we checked says Jason or Lucia is modelled on a specific person.
Are Real Dimez based on the City Girls?
Not confirmed. Fans have compared the in-game rap duo Real Dimez to the City Girls, as HotNewHipHop reported in May 2025, but Rockstar has not named any real artists behind the characters.
Is Nine 1 Nine a real club?
Not as far as we found. Nine 1 Nine is a GTA 6 name, and outlets read the Trailer 1 banner plane advertising it as a nod to E11EVEN, a real Miami club known for flying banners over South Beach. E11EVEN answered with its own banner in 2023, and in October 2026 Vice reported real NINE1NINE banner planes over South Beach as part of the launch campaign.
Which real artists made murals for GTA 6?
Wynwood Walls named ten artists who painted murals for Vice City’s Stockyard district and whose work, it says, also appears in the game: Tristan Eaton, Ron English, Queen Andrea, Lady Aiko, Gons and Audet, Faile, Denial, Askew One, and the Miami-based Atomik and Tatiana Suarez (ARTnews, Miami New Times). Rockstar itself credits FAILE with the tattoos at Stockyard’s Electric Fang Tattoo Parlor, and Dazed says more than 50 street artists worked on the game’s murals.
Are there monkeys in GTA 6?
Yes, according to Game Informer’s cover story: rhesus macaques are among the invasive species in Leonida, alongside green iguanas, cane toads and feral cats. They mirror Florida’s real wild macaques, which Notebookcheck says descend from monkeys released at Silver Springs in the 1930s.
